The former Greenwich Village home of star restaurateur Danny Meyer has hit the market.
Meyer, the founder and executive chairman of the Union Square Hospitality Group — parent company of international fast-casual burger chain Shake Shack and the dazzling Museum of Modern Art restaurant The Modern — lived on the ninth floor of the just-listed 8 E. 12th St. duplex for 11 years, from 1987 through 1998.
Since Meyer, 66, sold the apartment, it was subsequently combined with the eighth floor below, creating a 4,660-square-foot loft with sprawling views of One World Trade and New Jersey skyline, among other sights. This is the very first time the unit is listing as a two-story property.
The Agency’s Jed Lewin holds the listing, which is seeking $8.5 million.
The apartment is accessed via a keyed elevator on its lower level, which currently contains three bedrooms, a powder room, a sauna, a full bathroom, a laundry room and a living room with a wet bar, custom built-ins and a raised lounge area.
Up a spiral staircase, the once Meyer-owned half of the home is now laid out as an open-concept living room, dining area and gourmet kitchen equipped with Wolf and Miele appliances, a vented range and climate-controlled wine storage installed by Meyer.
Also on the upper level are two bedrooms, including the primary suite, which features a walk-in closet, a dressing room and an ensuite bath with a dual vanity.
In all, the unit has five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. Additionally, the space just so happens to be almost entirely wheelchair accessible, according to press materials.
Located just south of Union Square, the condo building contains 11 full-floor units and offers shared amenities including a paved roof deck, a full-time superintendent, basement bike storage and a video intercom.
In recent history, units in the building have heralded within $2 and close to $5 million, meaning that if the current listing gets anywhere close to its ask, it will be a record for the address.
