New one-stop hub for remote workers visiting Greater Palm Springs

Airbnb today announced the launch of the Greater Palm Springs remote working hub, a one-stop shop for aspiring remote workers in partnership with Visit Greater Palm Springs. The hub will provide anyone looking to live and work in the Palm Springs area with information on listings and local attractions and experiences.

The hub is part of our Live and Work Anywhere initiative, which launched earlier this year to identify some of the most remote worker-friendly destinations in the world, and support governments and Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) in helping revive tourism and provide economic support to communities after two-plus years of travel restrictions.

The Live and Work Anywhere partnership will see Greater Palm Springs’ official DMO, Visit Greater Palm Springs, collaborate with Airbnb on various initiatives to promote the area to remote workers looking for longer stays. We will also partner with Visit Greater Palm Springs to create educational campaigns that promote responsible hosting and traveling as a remote worker.

It is clear that remote work and flexibility are here to stay. About one in five guests globally reported using Airbnb to work remotely while traveling in 2021 — a trend that has continued into 2022, with longer stays representing 20% of nights booked.* And, in the first half of 2022, nights booked for solo travel in Palm Springs for longer stays more than tripled compared to the same time in 2019.

Travel brings significant economic opportunity to local communities and connects people around the world, and we want to work together with destinations to make it easier for workers to enjoy this flexibility, and support the return of safe and responsible travel.

We recently published a guide for governments and destinations outlining recommendations for how communities can benefit economically from the rise in remote workers. Airbnb’s Guide to Live and Work Anywhere: How Communities Can Benefit from Remote Workers is based on insights, data and experiences in partnering with 20 destinations that are embracing the potential of remote work, as well as a review of remote worker programs worldwide.

To reap the benefits of remote working, Airbnb’s Guide to Live and Work Anywhere provides recommendations for:

Improving visa processes and streamlining tax compliance.Encouraging remote workers to support local businesses.Immersing remote workers and their families into host neighborhoods.

“Airbnb is proud to partner with Visit Greater Palm Springs to showcase all the Palm Springs area has to offer remote workers and travelers. This campaign is a joint effort that will help the destination’s economy thrive after years of travel restrictions,” said Tom Martinelli, Airbnb Senior Public Policy Manager.

“We are thrilled to partner with Airbnb to make planning your remote-work stay in Greater Palm Springs easier,” said Colleen Pace, Visit Greater Palm Springs Chief Sales & Marketing Officer.  “With breathtaking natural beauty, incredible dining and shopping, extraordinary wellness offerings, and a vibrant arts and culture scene, Greater Palm Springs offers an amazing balance of work and play for an inspiring experience unique to our destination.”

In April, co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky told employees they could work from anywhere as part of our own remote-working policy. In the first week following the announcement, Airbnb received more than 1 million visitors to its career page – reinforcing the appetite people have to live and work anywhere.
