Interior designer Karen Asprea has listed her Park Slope condo for $875,000.
The charming one-bedroom, one-bath home at 1630 Eighth Ave., is just steps from Prospect Park. Asprea got her start working for the late, prolific architect Costas Kondylis. She now heads her own luxury-focused firm, Asprea Studio, with offices in Tribeca and Miami.
Asprea’s clients include politicians whom, she said, cannot be named — along with high-profile media personalities and comedians such as Phoebe Robinson, whose work appears on HBO.
Asprea’s gut-renovated unit is in a brick rowhouse that dates to 1900. She bought it in 2016 for $579,000. That was before she met her husband, luxury contractor Ronald Masso. The couple now live in a two-bedroom rental at 363 Gowanus in Brooklyn, and they are building their dream house in Florida.
“So many clients relocated to Florida, it made sense to move down there,” Asprea said, adding that she is keeping her apartment and office in New York as well.
The Park Slope condo features a roomy kitchen with a breakfast bar and a pantry, plus a washer/dryer. There’s also a king-sized bedroom with two large closets and access to the finished backyard — a rare feature for a one-bedroom condo on Prospect Park, said listing broker McKenzie Ryan of Douglas Elliman.
“Being close to Prospect Park is amazing,” Asprea said. “It’s an established neighborhood and I love the consistency.” The apartment, she added, “feels like a tiny version of a house, with a full-sized range and backyard. It has everything a dream house would have, but a smaller version. For a single person, that was amazing.”
The condo is 710 square feet and also includes a working fireplace.
Details also include wide-plank hardwood floors, high-end ceiling fans, a balcony and an outdoor kitchen for dining al fresco.
Asprea adored the condo, especially the large front window with the morning light “pouring into the private backyard oasis,” she said, adding that she would walk her golden retriever, Dara, in the park every morning.
Her current projects run from Connecticut to Florida. Along with personal residences, they include a 100-unit condo in Coral Gables, close to her new studio on Miracle Mile, as well as a six-unit boutique condo in Soho and a 50-story luxury rental tower in Edgewater, Miami.
