NYC’s $50M QC NY spa on Governors Island announces an expansion set to open this summer

There’s a European oasis in New York Harbor — and it’s about to get bigger.

Governors Island’s sprawling Italian day spa QC NY is expanding with a new building, a restaurant and various wellness offerings set to open this July, The Post has learned.

Opened in and around former Army barrack Building 112 in March 2022, the $50 million retreat has been a hit with New Yorkers, providing a resort-level experience with a distinctly foreign ethos to those willing to schlep there by ferry and shell out $98 (at least) for timed admission.

Now, over two years after its initial ribbon cutting, QC NY is ready to unveil its conversion of a second structure, the 15,000-square-foot Building 112, which will have amenities including “sensory saunas,” a salt room, an ice room and a relaxation room with water beds.

As well, there will be a breath room serving as “a reminder to breathe,” and a lavender room “reminiscent of the lavender season in Provence or walking through the lavender field only steps away from us in Governors Island,” Andrea Quadrio Curzio, CEO and founder of the QC Spa of Wonders brand, told The Post.

(The company, which he started with his brother in the 1990s, is named for their initials: QC.)

It will also have the health compound’s second restaurant, Casa QC, a 142-seat, 5,000-square-foot eatery with soft and alcoholic beverages and a variety of Italianesque fare, including artisanal gelato and aperitivo trays.

A third facility, inside yet another former Georgian Revival-style barrack, is slated to be completed by the spring of 2025.

It will all bring the campus — the only QC location that’s outside Europe — to a total of 100,000 square feet.

Currently, the spa offers guests access to an array of Vichy showers, saunas, infrared beds, more than a dozen relaxation rooms, massages (for an additional charge), and its most Instagrammable nicety: Year-round outdoor pools with sweeping views of lower Manhattan.

“The expansion is another step in transforming Governors Island into a wildly popular, year-round destination,” reads a release about the new building, which notes that, until QC NY opened, the ferry only ran to the former Coast Guard base seasonally. That it now runs year-round is “another change you can thank the Italians for.”
