The celebrated portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz has sold her 88 Central Park West duplex on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for $10.62 million.
The 74-year-old purchased the property for $11.24 million in 2014 — and put it on the market four months ago for $8.6 million. That means that though she got $2.02 million over ask, she still lost $680,000 on the deal.
Kindle creator Gregg E. Zehr and lead Apple lawyer Kim M. Cooper are the new owners, Curbed first reported. Deborah Kern, of Corcoran, had the listing.
Located in the Brentmore building — which has also been home to stars including Lorne Michaels, Sting and Paul Simon over the years — the duplex apartment boasts four bedrooms and three bathrooms spread across 3,500 square feet.
There’s a grand staircase leading to the upper floor and various original details throughout, including the entrance gallery’s arched doorways, the dining room’s coffered ceiling and the living room’s decorative fireplace. They complement various changes made by Leibovitz during her time there, including carving out an office and a living room library, and making updates to a guest bedroom.
When the photographer — who is currently the artist in residence at Ikea — purchased the property a decade ago, it was in an effort to be closer to her daughters’ school. But now, with all three of them grown, she is selling the place as “the apartment is now too big for me,” she explained to the New York Times.
(The same year she bought her now-former duplex, she also sold a West Village townhouse trio for $28.5 million.)
Meanwhile, at 495 West St., the full-floor live-work studio Leibovitz listed in January is still seeking a buyer to the tune of $8.5 million.
The shutterbug paid $6.5 million for that unit back in 2022.
