Brick Underground, an independent media resource covering New York City’s real estate news, announced it will be closing at the end of the month unless it can find someone to buy its operations.
Brick Underground was founded in 2009 by Teri Karush Rogers, a journalist who was best known as a contributing real estate writer for The New York Times. The media industry journal Talking Biz News reported Rogers sent out an email stating that “despite our passion and commitment, the economic reality of running an independent media site has caught up with us. The evolving digital advertising landscape has only compounded these challenges, making it increasingly difficult for us to sustain our operations. Unless we find a buyer for the site, this will be Brick Underground’s final month.”
According to its website, Brick Underground publishes 20 articles and three email newsletters each week, including a newsletter for New York City’s real estate agents, and also produces a podcast featuring local real estate experts. The company’s website stated that it also offers a “gross rent calculator, used by tens of thousands of prospective renters to easily calculate the rent they’ll actually pay when an apartment is advertised at the net effective rent.”
