Rufus Wainwright — the acclaimed Canadian singer, songwriter and composer — is parting ways with his enchanting Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles residence.

Known for his soul-stirring rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” Wainwright and his husband, Jörn Weisbrodt, an art director, have decided to list their stunning abode for $2.2 million — announcing the news on Instagram, no less.

“The time has come… Jorn and I are listing our gorgeous Laurel Canyon home. We have lived in this house since 2016,” shared Wainwright, 50, expressing the sentimental attachment to their home.

“I wrote ‘Unfollow The Rules’ here, including one of my favorite pieces, ‘Peaceful Afternoon.’ We have had many of those here, and I hope that the next tenants enjoy it as much as we did.”

Wainwright and Weisbrodt purchased the property for $1.45 million, records show.

The listing itself paints a vivid picture of the property.

Built in 1926, this storybook home is described as a romantic love affair with life, embodying the charm of the era.

Enriched with history, the residence boasts classical elements such as wood-beamed cathedral ceilings, stained glass windows, a fireplace and a fabulous octagon-shaped library.

The lush greenery with yards and outdoor dining areas, complete with balconies on every level, add to the allure.

Occupying more than 2,100 square feet, the property holds three bedrooms and four bathrooms.

“The family kitchen, made to inspire your culinary efforts, connects to a formal dining room with an ambiance to entertain, fulfilling every expectation of a perfect night at home with friends. Cross the lovers bridge, and you know you’ve found your place to come home to,” says the listing, emphasizing the home’s welcoming atmosphere.

Dag Eliason and Alexandre Anu hold the listing with The Agency.

Despite bidding farewell to their Laurel Canyon abode, Wainwright reassures that he, along with his family, will remain in Los Angeles.

“We love living in this city and exploring a new area,” Wainwright said.

Wainwright’s musical achievements are noteworthy, with 11 studio albums, contributions to compilations and film soundtracks, and the creation of two classical operas.

Additionally, he set Shakespeare’s sonnets to music for a theater piece by Robert Wilson.

His talent has garnered Grammy nominations, including for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2009 and 2020.
