Efforts Underway to Create Organization to Challenge National Association of Realtors

National Association of Realtors

As the National Association of Realtors (NAR) rings out its problem-plagued year, there is a report of two new endeavors to create a national-level trade association for real estate professionals.

The New York Times reported Jason Haber, a Compass real estate who became a vocal critic of NAR’s leadership in the wake of the organization’s recent scandals, said he was seeking funds to start a new trade group by mid-2024, provided that NAR’s troubles worsen and its future becomes perilous. Haber is running The NAR Accountability Project and is collecting emails and social media followers from the real estate industry as part of that endeavor.

Separately, Mauricio Umansky, the founder and CEO of The Agency and a reality television personality, said he was planning to create an alternative to NAR. However, he provided no details on how he planned to launch this effort.

“They’re making decisions to protect themselves and the multiple listings services – they worry more about that than protecting the realtors,” said Umansky, who is suing NAR after the organization attempted to shut down his private home listing site.

Haber and Umansky stated they were in touch with each other and would consider combining their efforts.
