The California compound that the late Paul Newman and his second wife Joanne Woodward briefly called home has successfully sold.
The four-bedroom property hit the market for $7.99 million earlier this month, the Hollywood Reporter wrote at the time, and now, according to Mansion Global, it has found a buyer for almost exactly its asking price.
Constructed in 1937, the Beverly Hills estate is set on over an acre of land and defined by a more than 4,276-square-foot Colonial Revival style house.
Newman and Woodward lived there shortly after they were married, in the early 1960s.
The pair met while working together on the Broadway play “Picnic” and soon became involved in an affair, despite Newman being married to his first wife, Jackie Witte, with whom he shared three children.
In 1958, Newman divorced Witte and tied the knot with Woodward, a famous actress with whom he would go on to have three children and remain married to until his death from lung cancer at age 83 in 2008.
Witte died in 1994. Woodward is 93 years old.
In 1962, Newman and Woodward were photographed for a New York Daily News article at the gated compound.
The current seller of the estate was the daughter of “Jurassic Park” author Michael Crichton, Taylor Anne Crichton, who purchased the residence for $7.35 million in 2021, Mansion Global reported.
Highlights of the sprawling, five-bathroom space include its abundant outdoor amenities, including a stone fireplace, a grill, a loggia, a brick-front terrace, a custom double swing, citrus trees, walking paths, a bocce court, a pool, a spa, a lounge, a rooftop cabana and more.
Inside, there’s a formal dining room, a walk-in pantry with wine storage, a fireplace-equipped bedroom and a den.
Overall, the abode is a “prized piece of Hollywood history,” Benjamin Ballarin — who held the listing with Kevin Dees and Sebastian Spader of Carolwood Estates — told Mansion Global.
