Country singer Kelsea Ballerini has opened up about what it was like to find, lose and then buy her dream home from none other than fellow singer Kacey Musgraves.
In the most recent episode of the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” 30-year-old Ballerini talked about how, back in 2020, she fell in love with a 1920s Nashville cottage listed online and attempted to purchase it — only to be beaten to the deed by Musgraves, 35.
“I was like, ‘I want a house that feels like I don’t have to be a full adult yet.’ And I saw this house on Zillow, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is my house.’ I tried to buy it. It didn’t work out. Another wonderful, amazing artist bought it,” the “Miss Me More” crooner told podcast host Alex Cooper, People reported.
Cottage-less, she settled for a different property less than a mile away, but she “never really loved” it.
Then, in 2022, when she and Australian songwriter Morgan Evans divorced, Ballerini decided to text Musgraves about her crib crush — and that she’d be interested in buying the place off her if she ever decided to sell.
“Within like a month,” Musgraves had reached out to confirm that Ballerini was serious, and then sold her the pad in an off-market deal.
“We didn’t use real estate agents. It was woman-to-woman,” said Ballerini, adding that Musgraves spoke to her openly about the emotional processing she’d done in the abode, which she’d called home during and following her divorce from musician Ruston Kelly.
“[Musgraves] was like, ‘This was my healing house.’ It makes me a little emo,” Ballerini recalled in the podcast.
“I wanted a place that felt like me,” Musgraves told Architectural Digest in a 2022 profile of her and the property. “[A place] where I could express myself without having to think about another person and what they might want. This felt like a new beginning.”
