Home once owned by fashion journo Elsa Klensch lists for $845K

Elsa Klensch

Long before there were fashionistas, bloggers and influencers, there was Elsa Klensch.

The Australian-born journalist was CNN’s face of fashion, from CNN’s launch in 1980 until 2001, when she moved on to other projects, like writing mystery novels while still lecturing on fashion.

Klensch passed last year at age 92. Now, her Manhattan apartment where she lived from 1977 until her passing has hit the market for $845,000.

The apartment is in the landmarked Rockefeller Apartments at 17 W. 54th St., overlooking the Museum of Modern Art’s sculpture garden.

The third-floor unit co-op comes with one bedroom, one bathroom and lots of light.

Details include oversize windows and herringbone floors. A bay window by the dining alcove creates space between the living room and kitchen.

Maintenance is $3,100 a month.

Past residents include the late conductor/composer Henry Mancini, who won four Oscars for creating sweet and haunting songs like “Moon River,” for “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and fun scores like the original soundtrack for “The Pink Panther.”

The Rockefeller Apartments were commissioned by Nelson Rockefeller and completed in 1936.

The landmarked Bauhaus-style towers are on opposite sides of a courtyard garden with a pond and seating.

The listing brokers are Corcoran’s Barbara Brewster and Julia King.
