Unprecedented interest in the Paris Region during Olympic Games Paris 2024

Data released today by Airbnb shows a significant increase in interest in the Paris Region ahead of Paris 2024 from both international and French guests, with listings available throughout the Games in the Paris region being viewed over 100 times more1 than the same time last year – that’s an astonishing 10,000% increase.

Searches have ramped up over 30% in the second quarter of 2023, compared to the first quarter, for stays in the Paris Region during next year’s Olympics. Parisian suburbs are increasingly leading this acceleration with searches that almost doubled in the second quarter of 2023 than the first quarter of 2023.

Spreading the benefits of tourism to less touristic areas

Local Hosts sharing their home on Airbnb during Paris 2024 will benefit from the expected Games-time related bookings on Airbnb. Beyond current Hosts, nearly 20% of inhabitants in Ile-de-France who do not currently rent their home on Airbnb plan to open their doors to guests from all over the world during the Games period, according to a recent survey. Inhabitants from the Paris regions are already seizing the opportunity of becoming Hosts on Airbnb with 60%2 new active listings in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter.

The most viewed neighborhoods in the Paris Region3 are:

The 18th arrondissement

The 15th arrondissement

The 11th arrondissement

The 10th arrondissement

The 19th arrondissement

Interest in those arrondissements demonstrates that neighborhoods outside of main tourist areas – where locals mostly live – will likely benefit the most from the influx of visitors during the Olympic games Paris 2024.

Outside of Paris, the most viewed areas4 are Boulogne-Billancourt in Hauts de Seine, Montreuil and Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine in Seine-Saint-Denis. We also observe a growth dynamic for cities near competition venues, such as Vaires-sur-Marnes which is close to the nautical stadium with over 3 times more listing views (approximately over 210%), and Le Bourget which is close to the climbing venue with close to 3 times more listing views (approximately over 185%5)

“Travel on Airbnb is more dispersed than ever and with Paris 2024 on the horizon, we are helping spread income and tourism benefits beyond hotel hotspots to new and trending destinations, including many with no hotels. We’re excited to support visitors from all over the world in experiencing the Games and everything the Paris region has to offer in an authentic way with connection at core.”

Guests from all over the world, including France, start planning for Paris 2024

In terms of guest origin, the top five countries for searches6 related to Paris 2024 during the first half of 2023 include France, Great Britain, Germany, United States, and the Netherlands.

The majority of searches7 were for groups of three or more guests (over 40%). Searches for a duo represented over 30% of searches while family stays accounted for over 20% of searches.

With the increased demand, we encourage those who are thinking about Hosting to start getting their property and listing ready. Last year, Airbnb made it even easier to list your home through Airbnb Setup, featuring one-to-one guidance from a Superhost, the opportunity to host an experienced traveler as your first guest, as well as one-tap access to specially-trained community support agents. Airbnb has created a dedicated page where Hosts can find all the useful information relating to Olympic & Paralympic Games Paris 2024.
