Ethan Hawke’s former Chelsea townhouse has sold for $6.3 million — more than $300,000 above its initial asking price, Gimme Shelter has learned.
The all-cash deal followed a bidding war with multiple offers over the $5.98 million asking price, sources said.
The brokers showed the house for a mere two weeks. All of the bidders were local families, we hear.
The red brick residence, at 353 W. 21st St., is in a landmarked district. At 21 feet wide, the 3,600-square-foot home comes with six bedrooms, 4½ baths and lots of built-ins, including a wall of bookcases.
It still has vestiges from Hawke’s time there — such as a retro red fridge and mustard yellow cabinetry in the charming eat-in kitchen.
Hawke bought the four-story property for $3 million in 2005. That’s the year he finalized his divorce from actress Uma Thurman. The actors share two children together, Maya — a star of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” — and Levon. He sold the home in 2013. Hawke had two more children, Clementine and Indiana, with his second wife, Ryan Shawhughes.
Hawke is currently getting praise for “Wildcat,” which he co-wrote and directed. It’s about the Southern writer Flannery O’Connor, starring Maya Hawke, to boot.
The dwelling opens on the parlor level to a great room with a gas fireplace. Pocket doors separate the living area from the hall stairs, while a dining area features casement windows overlooking the backyard.
The second floor holds some of the bedrooms, while the main bedroom suite takes up the entire third floor — and includes a gas fireplace, a walk-in closet and an ensuite spa-like bath. It also opens to a planted terrace with a retractable awning.
In addition, the ground floor comes with its own entrance and can work as a separate two-bedroom unit.
The backyard features an irrigated watering system and a sunken patio.
The listing brokers, Daniel Nassi and Alana Normile of Brown Harris Stevens, declined to comment.
