The creator of “Glee” and “American Horror Story” has a new project out: This revamped California home.
A historic Los Angeles property designed by legendary modernist architect Richard Neutra, and one newly restored by the famed TV producer Ryan Murphy, has hit the market for $33.9 million, the Wall Street Journal first reported.
Murphy, 58, bought the Neutra-built five-bedroom from former owner Tom Ford in 2022, paying the fashion designer $29 million for the approximately 3,800-square-foot compound.
After acquiring the Bel Air abode — which is known as the Brown House — Murphy, a self-described “architecture junkie,” got to work renovating it, as he’s previously bought and renovated more than 10 other historically significant houses.
(These have included a circa-1800 Cape Cod home, a Manhattan townhouse and more, according to the Journal.)
Built out of mostly glass, wood and concrete in 1955, this LA house is surrounded by foliage and still contains many of its Neutra-era details. It also has various furnishings leftover from Ford’s ownership, which are included in the sale — along with the entirety of the residence’s current contents.
Throughout are the original terrazzo flooring, cabinetry, black mosaic bathroom tile and wood paneling. Murphy also reoriented the Romanesque garden to encircle a 17th-century fountain and replaced fake grass with a gravel Neutra was known to use.
There’s also a double-wide living room, a primary suite with lacquered walls, two high-end kitchens and a ramp framed by cantilevered bars leading to the home’s main entrance.
The listing is held by Aaron Kirman of Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California, and Riley Schmidt and Tim Wollaston of Riley Real Estate.
