Female NASA pioneer Sandy Johnson lists luxe $5.65M Kauai townhome

Sandy Johnson

Sandy Johnson, the trailblazing CEO of Barrios Technology and a pioneer for women in the aeronautics and space industry since the days of “Hidden Figures,” has put her stunning $5.65 million townhome on the Hawaiian island of Kauai up for sale.

Johnson, who was one of the first women to work with NASA on the original space shuttle program as Katherine Johnson (no relation) was for the Apollo program, the inspiration for the film “Hidden Figures”, has spent decades making strides in space exploration.

She founded the first woman-owned small business supporting NASA and continues to be instrumental in all of NASA’s human spaceflight missions, including the Artemis Program — aimed at landing the first woman and the first person of color on the moon.

Among her other passions: Kauai.

“I developed my love for Kauai as the island provided a perfect balance with my career owning and leading a company providing technical integration services to NASA,” Johnson told The Post.

“From the excitement of supporting all our nation’s human spaceflight programs to relaxing on a beach with a Mai Tai — life doesn’t get much better than this!”

Located above the 15th hole of the Ocean Course at Hōkūala, the two-story home at Timbers Kaua‘i, Lāola dazzles.

This lavish three-bedroom, 3.5-bath split-level home spans over 3,500 square feet of total living space, offering panoramic ocean views and sunrises.

The open floor plan, featuring wall-to-wall glass doors, allows for a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living.

The spacious lanai, perfect for entertaining or unwinding, boasts over 1,000 square feet of outdoor space complete with an outdoor grill and a private plunge pool.

Inside, the chef’s kitchen is a culinary dream, featuring granite and quartzite countertops, custom Sapele cabinetry, professional Thermador appliances, a wine and beverage cooler, and a built-in ice maker.

The master suite upstairs comes with a built-in coffee nook, a soaking tub and a spacious ocean-view lanai. Two additional bedroom suites provide ample space for guests and loved ones.

“We bought our Laola townhome at Timbers Kauai while it was under construction in 2018 as it provided the perfect combination of an island lifestyle, ocean view, resort amenities and a team on property dedicated to making sure every need was met,” Johnson said.

It’s time to part ways, but Johnson says she’ll always keep the memories of the property.

“We love the view of the beautiful sunrise and moonrise from our lanai. During whale season, we watched them playing in the ocean almost as if in our backyard. We have lots of great memories experiencing all the amenities of the resort with our grandsons, such as them catching their first fish in the lagoons,” she added.
