Foxtrot and Dom’s Kitchen Abruptly Shut Down 35 Grocery Stores

Foxtrot

Roughly five months after the upscale grocery chains Foxtrot Market and Dom’s Kitchen & Market merged in an all-stock deal to become Outfox Hospitality, the combined entity announced the immediate closure of all 35 of its stores.

The impacted location includes 33 Foxtrot stores in Austin, Chicago, Dallas and Washington, D.C., and two Dom’s locations in Chicago. Foxtrot and Dom’s emphasized locally sourced foods and organic products, in-store cafes and wine sales as part of their offerings.

Prior to their merger, the two companies had successful funding rounds, with Foxtrot raising a total of $160 million and Dom’s bringing in $50 million. No explanation was given on why the combined company failed so abruptly.

“We explored many avenues to continue the but found not viable option despite good faith and exhaustive efforts,” said the company in a statement to its website, adding, “We understand this news may come as a shock, and we apologize for any inconvenience it may cause.”
