Outages Disrupt Service on Facebook and Instagram

Facebook and Instagram

Real estate professionals who rely on Facebook and Instagram for their social media marketing will be in for a rude surprise this morning as service on the two platforms was disrupted.

According to the DownDetector site that tracks online outages, reports of problems with Facebook were first reported around 10:00 a.m. EST, with many users complaining they were unable to log in. The Instagram platform is not loading for many users. Both platforms are owned by Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META), whose Threads microblogging site and Facebook Messenger service were also experiencing outage problems.

The cause of the disruptions has not been identified. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the problem on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”

Elon Musk, who owns X, tweaked his social media rivals at Meta over their dilemma. “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working,” he wrote on X.

Update: Service on the platforms was restored by 12:30 p.m. EST. Meta referred to the outage as a “technical issue.”
