23-Year-Old Sought for Georgia Real Estate Scam

Georgia

Police in Gwinnett County, Georgia, are seeking a 23-year-old man for an online real estate scam.

According to combined media reports, two victims were each scammed out of $100,000 in January 2023 after answering a Facebook Marketplace advertisement for the sale of a home in the Atlanta suburb of Ellenwood. The victims were told to wire money to what was supposed to be an Atlanta law practice, but when they arrived at the office they discovered they were scammed.

After a lengthy investigation, police identified Jaylen Anderson, 23, as the suspect in the case. He is charged with four counts of theft by deception, identity theft, and records and reports of currency transactions.

“He was masking his name, obviously, using different aliases, he would mask his phone number, his email addresses,” said Cpl. Juan Madiedo of the Gwinnett County Police Department. “He made it appear legitimate like he did represent a law group here in Atlanta.”

Police said Anderson is suspected in similar scams around metro Atlanta. His current whereabouts are unknown.
