Rent fashion guru Allen Schwartz’s NYC pad for $9K/month

An apartment in Sutton Place owned by 78-year-old fashion mogul Allen Schwartz — and a unit that’s really seen a number of design aesthetics over the decades — is on the market as a $9,000-a-month rental.

The two-bedroom, two-bath home at 434 E. 52nd St. is also for sale, asking $1.45 million.

Schwartz has rented and then owned the residence for more than 50 years.

Last year, Schwartz sold the company he founded, ABS by Allen Schwartz, to Five Oak Brand Advisors. He also sold his home in LA for $16 million. Schwartz moved into the Sutton Place property in 1972, when it was a rental for around $450 a month — or some $3,700 today. He then bought it in the early 1980s when it went co-op, according to reports.

It has been through many design phases since then — from the shaggy ’70s era, with mirrors, rugs, a crushed-velvet sofa and an 87-inch TV screen — to today’s sleeker design.

But the unit’s great bones — 1,200 square feet with 16-foot-high ceilings in the sunken living room — remain. The unit now boasts espresso-stained hardwood floors, ceiling beams, oversize windows and upscale finishes.

An open dining room features a partial glass wall and looks down on the sunken living room, with its woodburning fireplace and black marble mantel. There’s also a chef’s kitchen and a private bedroom wing. The main bedroom suite includes an ensuite bath and a large dressing area/home office and a walk-in closet.

The Emery Roth-designed Art Deco building dates to 1930.

The listing broker is Elan Gabai of Douglas Elliman.
