Joshua Tree’s ‘extraterrestrial’ Bonita Domes hit the market

One of the California desert’s most unique properties is looking for a new owner.

In Joshua Tree, itself a famed National Park, a set of structures known as the Bonita Domes has hit the market for $1.79 million.

Constructed mostly out of locally excavated earth, the abodes were built by one Lisa Starr over the course of seven years, based on designs by the late SuperAdobe architecture pioneer Nader Khalili, Insider reported.

The SuperAdobe style utilizes stacked sandbags of earth and barbed wire to create buildings, and was inspired by a space habitation assignment Khalili got from NASA in the 1980s.

After finishing the Domes in 2014, Starr resided there until 2020, when she sold her creation to current seller Jeffrey Weiss for $808,500, according to the outlet.

Weiss has owned the compound ever since, and first attempted to sell it this February, for $2.1 million, before removing it from the market — although not from Airbnb, where it is currently listed for $537 a night.

Now, the 6920 Bonita Ave. address is again for sale, at a lowered price.

“Bonita Domes is a magical out of this world property located in the beautiful high desert of Joshua Tree,” Angelica Vitale, who shares the listing with fellow Coldwell Banker Realty agent James Bianco, told The Post — adding that the residence was “built to withstand the elements.”

Adds the listing, “This exquisite property will leave you feeling a sense of magic, almost as though you have just been transported to an extraterrestrial planet.”

In all, the offering includes 1,339 square feet of living space spread over three main domes. The largest has two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and two bathrooms. A separate, stand-alone dome has two more bedrooms and a studio space — and there’s also a communal bath dome.

There are five bedrooms and three bathrooms in all, and the grounds additionally offer an outdoor kitchen and barbeque area, a fire pit, a pool and an intricate-looking small temple.
