Hosts who travel on Airbnb typically earned more than $12,000 in H1 2022

There’s no surprise that our Host community is passionate about travel. In fact, more than half of our active Hosts began their journey traveling as a guest on the platform. Many Hosts see their homes as a way to make extra money, and for many, their host income is funding for their next big trip. In the US, nearly one-in-four Airbnb Hosts were also guests on the platform and between January 1 and June 30, 2022, the typical Host in the US who was also a guest earned more than $12,000.

One of those Hosts is Bridget, a freelance creative who hosts her Stylish & Charming Downtown Mystic Getaway in Mystic, Connecticut. Since Bridget began hosting in 2018, she has earned a total of $56,9431. She says she normally budgets between five and 20 percent of her annual Airbnb income to spend on a month away in the summer, a week in autumn and winter, and various weekend trips.

“The money I earn from hosting my home on Airbnb means that I can work remotely during the summer and take my daughter away on a number of adventures. Most of the time we book an Airbnb for at least a month during the warmer months and have been lucky enough to spend summers at the beach in Nova Scotia, or the Lake District in the English countryside,” said Bridget.

Host Caroline and her husband are also avid travelers, starting their journey on Airbnb by renovating and listing a camper on their property when they weren’t using it for road trips – and now hosting The Eco-Cabin Muskoka in Bracebridge, Ontario. Since Caroline began Hosting her cabin in 2019, she has earned a total of $39,593, allowing her to fuel her passion for travel while providing guests with a tranquil getaway in her off-grid cabin.

“The income from Hosting has funded trips to Iceland, Bali, Lombok, Morocco and a lot of US roadtrips. We travel as much as possible, which ends up being three to four big trips a year and multiple local weekends away – our recent favorite was a trip to Manitoulin Island,” said Caroline.

Caroline and Bridget join thousands of Hosts across the country who are using their income from Airbnb to fulfill their travel dreams and more.
